Smoke & Mirrors

In this project, I aimed to convey a sense of abstract movement through bold lighting and strong, design-driven elements.

It represents my recent exploration of 3D simulations in Houdini, where technical experimentation meets visual storytelling.

How to portray the smoke behaviour?

For this piece, I approached smoke simulation from a different and more distinctive perspective. I forced particles and linear elements to follow the behavior of the smoke, creating a dialogue between structure and fluidity.

To achieve this, I built abstract, sculpture-like forms that interact with the Pyro simulation, then advected colorful lines across its motion fields, allowing them to inherit the dynamics of the fluid.

The result became an unexpected balance between control and chaos. The interplay between rigid design elements and organic simulation created evolving compositions that feel both intentional and unpredictable.

This process allowed me to push the boundaries of procedural experimentation while maintaining a strong visual identity.
