And on their bodies grew beautiful trees

The film tells the story of a massacre that took place at the beginning of the war in the Piaśnica forest near Wejherowo (Pomeranian Voivodeship). Between 1939 and 1940, Nazi soldiers murdered nearly 14,000 victims there.

The main part of the film narration is a poem written seven years after the tragedy by an anonymous participant in exhumation. Innocent and very impressionistic text does not seem to fit to the described tragedy. The words that appear on the screen, however, are enormously powerful when viewers begin to read them. It is these words that allow us to 'dive' into the disturbing forest. When we learn that these beautiful trees have grown on the bodies of innocent people, we realize that this forest is a memory and a silent witness of this tragedy.

The film was made using 3d animation. Also 3d scans of trees of Piaśnica Forest were used during the realisation.
